KNIA/KRLS has received the following press release from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office:
On Friday June 19, 2015, at 11:12 a.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a 911 call in regards to an unresponsive female at 132 Perry St, in rural Marion County.
Upon arrival Melcher Dallas Rescue Personnel and Marion County Deputies discovered a deceased female in the residence. The female victim has been identified as Shirley Carter, 68, who resided at the above address.
An autopsy was conducted today at the Office of the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, Iowa. Doctor Julia Goodin performed the autopsy. Preliminary results of the autopsy indicate cause of death being a gunshot wound and manner of death was ruled a homicide. The final autopsy results will not be available for several weeks.
An ongoing criminal investigation is being conducted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County Attorney’s Office, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Iowa State Patrol, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Indianola Police Department.
