Though he’s discouraged with Governor Branstad’s vetoes, District 28 State Representative Greg Heartsill feels the call for a special session of the Iowa Legislature will not move forward.

Heartsill tells KNIA/KRLS News that “since Senate Minority Leader Bill Dix has made it clear that Senate Republicans will stand by the Governor and not support the special session, it pretty much eliminates the possibility of moving this issue.”

Senate Democrats are asking for a special session so that they have an opportunity to try and override Branstad’s vetoes.

Heartsill added that he’s disappointed the Governor chose to veto the bipartisan agreements regarding the Clarinda and Mount Pleasant mental health institutes and education funding, among others.
