Heat Safety

Heat index values topping 110 degrees are expected throughout many parts of the state today.

According to the National Weather Service, afternoon high temperatures in the low to mid 90s are in the forecast, and that–mixed with humid air–will cause potentially dangerous heat. An excessive heat warning is in effect until 7 p.m. tonight. Meteorologist Kelsey Angle says once heat index values top 100, it can pose a danger to anyone outside for prolonged amounts of time.

Slightly cooler temperatures and dew points will keep heat indices below advisory and warning criteria on Tuesday.
