It had the makings of an Old West shootout, with two talented offenses butting heads on Saturday. Instead, the game turned lopsided and resulted in Pella High upsetting the No. 2-ranked team in Class 4A, Indianola, in the regional semifinals, 4 – 0. Pitcher Elyse Sadler was given an early 4 – 0 cushion after two innings, thanks to big base hits with runners in scoring position, and all capped off by a two-run single by Kennedy Landgrebe. Sadler only needed the one run they got in the first inning, as she dazzled in the circle, allowing just five base hits and stranding five of the Indians’ seven baserunners in scoring position. The Lady Dutch improve to 20 – 13, and they’ll play for a trip to Fort Dodge and the state tournament this Tuesday against Marion. The game is scheduled to be played back in Indianola, but the site may be moved due to the driving distance of Pella’s opponent.
