Heat index values topping 100 degrees are expected throughout most of the state today.

A heat advisory in effect for Marion County and south central Iowa from noon to 7 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, afternoon high temperatures in the low to mid 90s are in the forecast, and humid air will cause potentially dangerous heat.

Meteorologist Kelsey Angle says once heat index values top 100, it poses a danger to anyone outside for prolonged amounts of time.
