The bats were working for one team but not the other, as Pella Christian toppled Central Decatur yesterday in the Class 2A district baseball quarterfinals, 9 – 4 in Albia. The Eagles got out to a quick three-run lead, and eventually swatted 11 base hits while the pitching staff and the defense did the rest of the work. Four different Eagle pitchers combined to one-hit the Cardinals, who didn’t have a tally in that “H” column until the seventh. Despite the triple-digit heat index, Coach Nate Johnson says his guys toughed it out and got a quality win. All nine hitters in PC’s line-up had a hit, and the Eagles improve to 14 – 15 on the year, and they are back in Albia to face the Blue Demons in the semifinals later tonight. You can hear the game live on AM 1320 and FM 95.3 KNIA and KNIAKRLS.com, with Andrew Schneider on the play-by-play. Pre-game coverage is set to begin at 6:45 p.m. and first pitch at 7:00.
