The Pella City Council recently approved plans to improve the city’s trail system.

City Administrator Mike Nardini says additional bike trails were an important part of a comprehensive plan approved last year.

“There was a separate group that looked extensively just at trails, and we heard loud and clear from our residents that trails and biking in the community was very, very important”, Nardini says.

Nardini says they are currently looking to improve the system on the east side of town near the new Pella Sports Park and Vermeer Corporation. The council approved a resolution for a grant application to the Iowa Department of Transportation to help pay for nearly half of the roughly $670,000 project.
