The Pleasantville Baseball team is headed to the state tournament after defeating BGM in walkoff fashion last night 4-3.

Zeb Adreon started on the mound for the Trojans and pitched six innings and only giving up three hits and two unearned runs, while the Trojan offense once again was bolstered by a two run home run by Josh Luna in the first inning. After each team scoring runs in both the first and second innings, both Adreon and BGM relief pitcher Kaiden Fieblekorn settled down in the middle innings keeping both offenses fairly stagnant.

Pleasantville held a 3-2 heading in to the seventh and brought in District Championship winning pitcher Josh Luna to close it out, but BGM made a charge started off by leadoff hitter Mason Sherwood reaching first on an error, stealing second and then eventually scoring the tying run on an error by shortstop Jesse Nichols. With the score tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the inning, a Cassin Garr leadoff walk and a sharply hit Zeb Adreon ball which resulted in an error led to a 1st and 3rd situation with nobody out. The Trojans then looked to Josh Luna to drive in the winning run, and he did not fail to deliver hitting a deep fly ball to left field and scored Garr on the tag to win the Substate 6 title and send the Trojans to the state tournament. Despite giving up the tying run in the top of the 7th, Pleasantville Head Coach Sheldon Card never lost faith.

“A couple guys had their heads down, which at that point is understandable because at that point you thought you had it, but I told them the memory they will make winning it in the bottom of the seventh is something they will never forget” Card told KNIA/KRLS Sports.

The #3 seeded Pleasantville will move on to play #6 seeded West Sioux on Saturday at 5pm in Principal Park in the opening round of the State tournament.
