On their best days, the Central men’s basketball team could shoot with anybody when the scoreboards were getting a workout. Even on their so-so days, the Dutch were usually right there with chances to grasp control of the game. However, an increased turnover rate, coupled with a step back on the defensive side wound up being like a bad cold that Central just couldn’t shake. The Dutch turned the ball over 14 times per game, about three times more on average than their opponents, and gave up over 73 points per game. Rebounding, Central was out-rebounded in nine of their 15 Iowa Conference games, including a 40 – 27 deficit in a loss to Wartburg in the league tournament opener. Coach Craig Douma says if this team wants to get back to the national stage, these are areas they must improve in. They’ll get their first chance on November 14, when their season tips off at home against Webster.
