Three days later than they’d originally expected, the Pella High baseball team will finally get a chance to step foot on Principal Park for the class 3-A state baseball tournament this afternoon when they meet Harlan in the semifinals. The Little Dutch earned a thrilling 2-1 win over Dallas Center Grimes on Wednesday morning, while the Cyclones dispatched Dubuque Wahlert 4-0 that same day. Those games were supposed to have been played Tuesday, and the shortening of the tournament by one day will make pitching even more challenging and depth more important. The Little Dutch used their ace, Grant Judkins, to beat the Mustangs, and now come back with Tanner Wood this afternoon. Coach Jesse Jablonski says that if needed, he’s also got several other arms he feels good about. Pella is ranked number one in the state and seeded second in the tournament with a 34-4 record. Harlan is ranked seventh, seeded third, and is 27-7 this season. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 in downtown Des Moines, and our coverage will start just after 1:00 on 92.1 KRLS and www.kniakrls.com.
