Knoxville City Manager Harold Stewart says the city has applied for grants that will look to improve the traffic signals along Highway 14.
Stewart says the current signals are outdated and grant funding from the Department of Transportation can help bring them up-to-date.
To qualify for the funding, the Traffic Signal Improvement Program study must be completed. Once the final report is available, the city can include it with grant application.
If the city gets the grant, it would cover 80 percent of the costs to replace the traffic signals.
