In October, Knoxville officially entered into a sister city agreement with Warrnambool, Victoria State, in the commonwealth of Australia.

The two cities have a common love for sprint cars and each has their own race track where racers from both countries travel back and forth to participate in events.

Premier Speedway General Manager David Mills made the trip to Knoxville this year and likes the relationship between the two cities and tracks. He says Warranambool has two other sister city relationships in the Far East that are business-related, so it’s nice to have a sport-and-tourism-based relationship instead.

Mills says many Australians make the trips to the Knoxville Nationals each year and they’ll see quite a few Americans come January, when they run their Grand Annual Sprint Car Classic.
