The topic of defunding Planned Parenthood was discussed by U.S Senator Joni Ernst and several members of the audience during a town hall meeting at Hormel in Knoxville Saturday.
At least 30 people, including District 14 State Senator Amy Sinclair, attended the event. Ernst was asked several questions about a proposed amendment that would eliminate funds for Planned Parenthood. She says money earmarked for Planned Parenthood would be rerouted to community health centers and hospitals, where women can also be seen for many of the same services.
A call to defund the program has grown after the release of undercover videos recently that showed Planned Parenthood employees describe the selling of tissues and organs from abortions.
