The city of Knoxville wants to remind residents about the rules regarding displays on private property.

Knoxville Interim City Manager Aaron Adams says citizens do have the right to freedom of speech, but they ask that any displays be placed between the sidewalk and the residence, not in the right of way.

The recent debate over a fallen soldier silhouette at the Freedom Rock has led to white crosses in yards throughout the city as a way to show support for keeping the display.

Adams says not only does this guarantee the display is on private property, but also doesn’t cause safety issues due to line of sight. He says this is enforced for any types of displays, including political and garage sale signs.
