A Pella couple is hoping to show their support of law enforcement this month.

Kathy Lang and her husband Joe, a retired police officer, have put up blue ribbons in Central Park and at the Pella Police Department, calling it a “Sea of Blue.”

Kathy says tensions between citizens and law enforcement agencies are at an all-time high across the country. Joe says he was hit hard when he lost his partner, which has spurred their involvement in the movement.

“I had a partner I worked with for twelve years that was ambushed March 17th, 2014, and killed in the line of duty,” he says.

Kathy hopes citizens will take time to recognize the positives many officers do on the job daily.

“Their job is very thankless sometimes,” she says. “And I just feel like I want the officers of Pella and officers across the nation to know I get their job. It’s tough, and I want to see citizens support them more.”
