Marion County Board of Supervisors Chairman Mark Raymie says chances are “50/50” that the county could win its appeal to the Iowa Department of Human Services on extending the grant for the Mid-Iowa Behavioral Health Region.
DHS sent the county a letter in June on their ruling. Raymie says one of their arguments to keep the provisional region, made up of Marion and Mahaska Counties, is that DHS hasn’t given them the two year minimum to establish the region. He says it will be up to a judge to determine if the region will ever be able to come into compliance.
As a backup, Marion County has been accepted to join the County Rural Offices of Social Services region. Raymie says, if the county wins the appeal, a decision will have to be made on which region to join.
