Knoxville was swept by Newton in basketball yesterday. The girls fell to the Cardinals 60-37 in a game that Coach Jim Uitermarkt told KNIA/KRLS Sports the girls just did not have the needed energy all game. Ricki Hall led with 12 points while Shaye Nichols and Carrie Chambers scored eight points. Knoxville falls to 5-3 on the season. The boys got off to a slow start but made a run to trim the deficit to five after Patrick Crawford nailed a three just before halftime, but Newton kept Knoxville at bay for a 71-60 victory. Knoxville did trim the lead in the fourth quarter to two on a 7-0 run, but Newton responded with a 13-0 spurt to put the game away. Blake McClung led the Panthers with 14 points and Chase Larson had 13. Knoxville is now 4-3, both teams will travel to Centerville on Tuesday.
