In their first conference game of the 2016 part of the schedule, Pella High’s boys made quick and seemingly easy work of Norwalk on the road last night, thumping the Warriors, 81 – 49.

The Little Dutch got out to a 29 – 16 lead after one quarter, thanks to ten first-period points from Ryan Van Wyk. Pella then added 21 more in the second and 22 in the third to get the game to a continuous clock and got out of town sooner than anticipated. Coach Mark Core says the guys responded in practice after their loss to Valley on Monday in an extremely positive way.
Van Wyk finished with 17 points, Donovan Holterhaus and Payson Vande Lune each put in 12, and Will Warner added ten more. Pella’s boys improve to 8 – 1 on the year and 4 – 0 in the conference. The Lady Dutch started slow, but built up to a crescendo, defeating Norwalk, 45 – 32. Chloe Van Vliet, in her first game back from a concussion, scored nine first-half points to pace the offense, but it was the play of Kiara Bradley in the final 16 minutes that allowed the Lady Dutch to pull away. Bradley scored 16 second half points to finish with 18 for the contest, to go along with 12 rebounds for a double-double. The Lady Dutch push their record to 8 – 2, and both teams return home for a league game on Tuesday versus Newton.
