The Knoxville City Council met Monday and discussed the process of appointing a new council member to fill the vacant seat.
Interim City Manager Aaron Adams reported to the council that by Iowa Code they can either make an appointment or hold a special election. The public can also call for a special election. The council decided to make an appointment, and now ask interested citizens to send letters of interest by January 25. They plan on beginning the interview process during the first week of February with the hope of making an appointment during the February 15th meeting. Should the public request a special election, 150 signatures on a petition will be required. A special election will cost approximately $6,000.
