The Pella High School basketball teams will begin a week that could either significantly solidify or weaken their standing in the Little Hawkeye Conference when they face a pair of improved Newton teams tonight at home.

The Cardinals boys and girls squads finished 2015 with losing seasons, but bring two seven-win squads to Pella High School’s gym.

Girls Head Coach Jerod Garland says Newton’s 7-4 girls are experienced, and will prove to be a big test for the Lady Dutch.

Newton’s boys have thrown themselves in the Little Hawkeye Conference championship mix, standing alone in 2nd place with their 3-1 conference record while scoring 66 points per game, both stats second only to the Little Dutch.

Pella’s girls have won their last six and the boys are hoping to continue their conference winning streak that dates back to January 2014. Pella will host Newton with a doubleheader that begins at 6:15, with pregame at 6 on KNIAKRLS.com.
