The sub-zero temperatures of the past weekend caused layers of ice to form on Lake Red Rock.
Despite arctic conditions, the US Army Corps of Engineers is still encouraging the public to stay off the ice. Park Ranger Tracy Spry says “no ice is safe ice” and it is especially dangerous in these days of fluctuating temperature and decreasing water levels.
The Corps forecasts the level of the lake to decrease by more than a foot a day in the coming week, with each foot making the ice more unstable.
