The Pella City Council is in the process of discussing the possibility of design standards for new homes along two of the city’s gateway corridors.
Planning and Zoning Director George Wesselhoft says the council set up an ad-hoc committee earlier this year to make a recommendation to the council for possible ideas along Washington and Main Streets.
He says the concept is mostly new to Pella, with only one area with a set of standards for residential zoning.
A moratorium on new building permits for single and duplex homes along those streets was put in place until the council makes their decision.
They are expected to continue further deliberation during a policy and planning session following their regular meeting on Tuesday, February 2nd.
