Battling back from a 14-point first half deficit and tying the game up twice on their final possessions of regulation and overtime, the Central men’s basketball team still came up short thanks to a Nick Clark three-pointer with one-tenth of a second on the clock in a 97 – 94 setback on Saturday. After watching the women get trounced by the Beavers, 99 – 45, the men came out sluggish themselves, going just 1-for-17 from downtown in the first half, but still only found themselves down by 11 at halftime. The Dutch were playing without Ryan Kunkel, who was out for the second straight contest due to illness, and with two of their other starters also not feeling 100%. Kennedy Drey hit two big shots in overtime with the shot clock winding down, and the game looked destined to go to double OT, when Kyle Smith drained a game-tying perimeter shot with four seconds left. BV’s Nick Clark took the inbounds play and drove down the court and pulled up from the right wing and delivered the victory. Smith finished with a game-high 25 points, Austin Glawe scored 24, and Colby Taylor dropped in 16. The men fall to 12 – 5 overall and 3 – 3 in the Iowa Conference, while the women are now 4 – 13 and 1 – 5, respectively. Simpson comes to the Tulip City to complete the first trip through the Iowa Conference for Central’s hoopsters this Wednesday.
