The Central men’s basketball team suffered their first home loss of the 2015-16 season last night by dropping a tough one to their Warren County rivals, Simpson, 86 – 78. The Dutch came out scorching hot from the field, shooting 68% and getting out to a 45 – 36 halftime lead. Central would be outscored 50 – 33 in the final 20 minutes, as the Storm went 15-for-26 from the field and held Central to just 31% shooting. Simpson also forced 22 Dutch turnovers with their stout defense. Five players were in double figures for Central, led by Pete Walker’s 16 points. Sam Amsbaugh came off the bench to lead all scorers with 30 for Simpson. The Central women also lost to the Storm, 65 – 54. Defense played a key role in the first half for the Dutch, as they held Simpson to just seven first-quarter points, but turnovers doomed them; 18 giveaways led to 19 Storm points. Jackie Kriegel scored a team-high 11 points in the loss. Both teams will try to pick up a win at home this Saturday against Coe.
