It’s Pella Christian’s turn to host their cross-town rivals on the hardwood tonight. Pella High and the Eagles are gearing up for a late-season match-up with roughly three weeks left in the regular season. The Lady Dutch had some trouble early against PC, falling behind by more than ten in the first quarter before the afterburners came on in a 53 – 34 victory in mid-December. The Eagle girls just broke a five-game losing streak after defeating Oskaloosa on Tuesday, and Coach Kevin Van Maanen mentions there are many things his team will need to do well against the No. 8-ranked team in Class 4A.
Pella High’s boys have put the running clock on back-to-back opponents, most recently Grinnell on Tuesday. They smothered the Eagles, 84 – 45 in their first confrontation, thanks in part to a 24-point, 17-rebound effort from Ryan Van Wyk. Both teams know each other well, but Coach Mark Core says it has no bearing on how tonight will go.
