Voters living in the Prairie City-Monroe School District will have the chance in February to vote on funding that would allow for significant facility upgrades in the district.
The PCM School Board recently approved a $10 million bond referendum be placed on the ballot February 2nd.
Superintendent Brad Jermeland says the board has been planning for the improvements for three years.
“We are excited to be able to present these outstanding improvements to the citizens of Prairie City, Monroe and Reasnor,” he said in a statement.
The total project cost is estimated to be $20 million, $10 million of which will be funded through sales tax and cash on hand.
The project will include:
Renovations and Security Improvements at Each School
Secure entrances will be added at both elementary schools and the middle school to create a safer single point of entry for visitors. In addition, improvements will be made to
classrooms and parking areas. At the PCM high school, plans call for additional classrooms, eliminating the need for portable classrooms, and improvements to the fine arts area.
Middle School Auditorium Updates
Plans call for remodeling, new lighting, better seating and improvements to the PCM Middle School auditorium, a facility used district wide by fine arts students and staff.
