The annual Love Your Heart testing is taking place Thursday at the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics.
The hospital is offering regular heart and vascular screenings. Spokesperson Katrina Nelson says the goal is to help people manage risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high total cholesterol or high blood glucose. The screenings are from 6:00 a.m. to noon. Walk-ins are welcome, but appointments are recommended. Here is a full list of tests:
Option 1: Lipid screening and blood pressure check: Why should you get this screening – the lipid screen panel is the cholesterol and triglycerides levels that everyone is supposed to keep track of to evaluate their blood vessel health. Long term effects of high lipids are blood vessel disease. If you keep your lipids in normal levels, you will lower your risk of heart disease and stroke.
Option 2: Carotid screening ultrasound: Why should you get this screening – the screening is beneficial if you have sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arms, or legs, confusion, trouble with speech or vision, and dizziness or headaches. An ultrasound is used to look for narrowing or blockage of the arteries in your neck caused by plaque.
Option 3: Aortic aneurysm screening ultrasound: Why should you get this screening – this screening is beneficial if you feel a pulsing in your stomach or pain in your back and your abdomen. An ultrasound test will examine the aorta to look for weakness in the vessel’s walls.
Option 4: Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) screening: Why should you get this screening – this screening is beneficial if you have pain in your legs. A blood pressure cuff and hand held Doppler is used to determine if the leg arteries are blocked by plaque.
Option 5: Carotid and aortic aneurysm screening package
Option 6: Carotid, aortic aneurysm, Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) screening ultrasound, heart rhythm screening (atrial fibrillation), and lipid screening package
