While many bills at the Iowa Statehouse will no longer be considered due to the first deadline of 2016, others that are still alive may not make it to the table for financial reasons.

State Senator Ken Rozenboom says a tax coupling bill to match federal tax code depreciation deductions for the purchase of equipment may not pass this year. He says Senate Democrats will not bring the bill to the floor this session, which in his words amounts to a $96 million tax increase.

Rozenboom claims this will adversely affect many farmers, small businesses, and educators who use the deductions to purchase equipment. Senate Democrats argue it’s necessary to keep revenues up in a tight budget year to help fund many programs facing large spending cuts.
