Playing in one of the toughest conferences in the state of Iowa for class 1A and 2A teams, the Pleasantville Trojan girls basketball team could have had plenty of ready made excuses on why their season didn’t go as well as they would have hoped.

The conference boasts two teams currently in the state tournament, Mount Ayr for class 1A and Central Decatur for class 2A. The conference was so top heavy that Mount Ayr, who earned a trip to Wells Fargo Arena, only placed fifth overall in the conference. The top five teams had a combined 97-21 record, with Central Decatur leading the way with only one loss and has only one senior on the squad. None of these things matter for the Trojans, whose goal it was to place in the top half of the conference, a feat they just missed out on.

The Trojans know that playing in a tough conference, especially as young as they are will only make them better in the long run, but with the season at an end the Trojans can only plan to emulate those at the top of the conference for next year. A full season recap of the Trojans season can be heard on the Knoxville Hyvee Radio Coaches Corner this Saturday.
