More than one hundred firefighters and law enforcement officials from across Iowa will stair climb for a cause in Downtown Des Moines.
In fact, they’ll climb four buildings, totalling 85 floors combined. It’s all part of the American Lung Association in Iowa’s 2016 Fight for Air Climb on April 10th.
Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkom says a group participated last year in honor of his wife Susan, who recently had a double lung transplant. This year, the department will have three teams with 12 total firefighters participating in the Climb’s Firefighter Relay Challenge. The Knoxville Fire Department and Pella PD will also be represented.
Almost ninety cents of every dollar raised goes directly to education, research and advocacy.
Registration is open online at www.FightForAirClimb.org or by calling (515) 309-9507. It is currently $25 and will increase to $45 on April 3rd. If registering on event day, the total cost is $155 which includes both registration and fundraising totals.
