Washington Street Parking

The Pella City Council made final plans for the Washington Street reconstruction this week.

The council had been discussing the removal of parking on the north side of the street due to traffic flow concerns.

The council was advised by engineers with Snyder and Associates for specific changes that should be made. One of the recommendations was to change the parking spaces from a 45 degree angle to 60 degrees.

City Administrator Mike Nardini says this change will allow for seven additional parking spaces on the south side of the street.

“The overall goal in changing the parking alignment on that and the angles of the parking spaces was to accommodate more parking, but also to compensate the lost parking that would happen on the north side of Washington Street,” says Nardini.

The project is anticipated to begin later this spring.
