Featuring a starting line-up and depth that was mostly underclassmen, the Pella Christian girls’ basketball team faced an uphill battle most of the way in 2015-16. Their returning varsity experience came from juniors Cailey Terpstra and Brooke Mitrisin, Natalie Vos, Emma Van Donselaar, Mara Juffer, and sophomore Kaley Wilson, who missed most of last season due to injury. The Eagles were learning as they went, and despite the youth, went 5 – 5 through their first ten games. They did finish the season with an 8 – 15 record, and even with a difficult conference schedule, still held their own and earned a split against Norwalk and swept the season series over Oskaloosa. Coach Kevin Van Maanen says all of the playing time this year should be a great catapult into next winter. The Eagles’ conference slate will be even more difficult come next season when Indianola joins the Little Hawkeye Conference as a Class 5A school.
