A trial date has been set for a civil lawsuit filed in Marion County for the wrongful death of Shirley Carter last June.

Carter was found shot to death in her home in rural western Marion County. The criminal investigation into her death by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and Iowa DCI continues and charges have not been filed. According to court records, Shirley’s husband Bill Carter and family members are suing Jason Carter, her and Bill’s youngest son, for wrongful death. The family’s attorney Ron Danks told KNIA/KRLS News that they do not wish to wait for criminal charges to be filed. The trial is set for April 3 of next year.
