Knoxville Police Officers responded to a report of a man drinking and driving with a minor in the parking lot of Hy-Vee on Wednesday evening.

The complainant told officers a long-haired man in a cowboy hat was driving around the parking lot drinking a bottle of Jim Beam with a 10-year old boy in the passenger seat.

After arriving at Hy-Vee officers were told the man in question had struck another vehicle and fled the scene. Officers later found a man fitting has description, identified as Franklin Beard in the Fareway parking lot.

A field sobriety test was administered, but after failing the first part Beard allegedly became enraged and threatened officers with a medical brace. A struggle ensued and Beard punched and kicked officers until being taken into custody.

Beard is charged with disorderly conduct, assault on a peace officer, child endangerment, interference with official acts and driving while suspended.
