A significant freeze is expected tonight as overnight temperatures plummet.
The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for Marion County and most of central Iowa from 1 to 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
Tender vegetation can be damaged or die if left exposed with lows bottoming out in the low 20s.
The typical last freeze of the season takes place in mid-April, however, due to an earlier than expected growing season, the National Weather Service issued the warning.
