Battling with the obligations of prom, the Pella High boys’ and girls’ track and field teams each were runners-up at the Oskaloosa Invitational on Saturday. The Little Dutch fell by just nine points, 147 – 138, to Williamsburg. Pella went 1 – 2 in the long jump, discus, and shot put. Michael Buma added a gold in the 400 meter hurdles, and a silver in the 110 high hurdles. The girls scored 145 to Oskaloosa’s 173, also shorthanded due to prom plus the ACT testing on Saturday morning. Pella had eight different events take first place; Annika Pingel won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, the 4 x 100, 200, distance medley, and sprint medley relays also finished first. Pella Christian’s boys were first place in the smaller school division. Eddie Pringle won the long and high jumps plus the 200 meter dash, Grant Dunsbergen finished the fastest in the 3200 meters, Ben Diehl won in the 800 meter run, and the 4 x 200 meter relay team outpaced the competition. PC grabbed 114 points, ten more than second-place North Mahaska. The Eagle girls were just 13 points out of first place and settled for second to Sigourney. Lizzy Van Manen was first in the discus throw, Morgan Fopma was victorious in the high jump, the sprint medley, 4 x 100, 200 and 800 meter relays were also first.
