The Marion County Road Department has started road work tied to last year’s state fuel tax increase.

Marion County Engineer Tyler Christian says two projects in the county are underway as a result of the additional revenues.

“We’re doing two bridge projects with the fuel tax increase for this current fiscal year: on 195th, just north of Highway 163, that area just northwest of Pella and then southeast of Knoxville on Newbold we are doing a bridge replacement,” Christian says.

He says money from the tax started to come in last June, and says many projects are coming up as part of a five year plan. Signs have been posted at both sites to highlight the funding source.
