The Knoxville City Council approved measures giving incentives to Weiler for their expansion project from the city and the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) and also considered some difficult city issues on Monday night.
The city approved Weiler for a tax abatement and approved their application to the IEDA for the High Quality Jobs Program. Tax abatement will allow Weiler to pay less taxes than would normally be assessed by the city over the next five years and the High Quality Jobs Program provides Weiler with funding that will offset some costs of the latest expansion. Additionally the council continued discussion of a request for changes to the Second Street alley, and the debate continues about whether or not the alley is open. They also considered a request from the Dragon’s Car Club for use of the town square for a car show. The use of the square is being discussed because of its possible effect on the business of the Grand Theater, which makes much of its money on weekends.
