A Pella man faces an additional felony charge and has pled not guilty to involvement in a OWI arrest in which an officer was injured.
Matthew Van Klompenburg, 32, pled not guilty to possession of contraband in a correctional facility, a class D felony.
He was arrested following a brief physical altercation with police on March 31st following a traffic stop in Pella in which officers say he was pulled over for operating a vehicle while intoxicated from Monroe to Pella.
According to court records, Van Klompenburg was in possession of Xanax pills as he was taken to a correctional facility.
He also pled not guilty to OWI-3rd offense, a class D felony, and 1st degree harassment, assault on a peace officer causing injury, and interference with official acts causing injury, all aggravated misdemeanors.
Van Klompenburg was arrested in January for an OWI, after he was involved in a single-vehicle crash on T-14. He’s pled not guilty to those charges as well. Van Klompenburg has two prior OWI convictions.
