Asbestos removal is underway at West Elementary in Knoxville.

Superintendent Cassi Pearson says the asbestos removal is part of the West Elementary renovation project. Pearson says the district chose to remove the asbestos because they believe the long-term peace of mind and safety would be best for students and staff. Asbestos is only be removed at times when students and staff are out of the building. REW Services, a Des Moines company specializing in asbestos removal is taking precautions to prevent any exposure. The final phase of asbestos removal will be begin on May 30.
