The popular Dutch pastry dish known as poffertjes made yet another successful appearance at several food stands for this year’s Tulip Time Festival.

The Pella Kiwanis organization had many helpful hands while making and selling poffertjes including the Pella high school softball and cheerleading teams.

President of the Pella Kiwanis Jim Palmer told KNIA/KRLS News they bring in a lot of attention each year.

“It tends to be one of the more popular stands between the bit ball, and the poffertjes, and the stroopwafels. Those are three very traditional Dutch foods that people come to Tulip Time to experience. I think the Tulip Court encourages people to try those traditional Dutch foods and get a taste of the Netherlands,” says Palmer.

Tradition and culture is something that is honored while making these treats. Many workers even pass the time by singing while they fry.

The poffertjes stand will be open through the end of Tulip Time activities tonight.
