Elizabeth Hembrook, a registered nurse at Knoxville Hospital & Clinics, was recognized for her dedication to the nursing profession, patients, and their family members during Knoxville Hospital & Clinics’ fifth annual DAISY award ceremony held Monday.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses was presented to Hembrook, who is currently in her third year with Knoxville Hospital & Clinics. She will next be recognized at the Mercy Health Network of Central Iowa’s CEO meeting. A fellow nurse said:

“I work alongside Elizabeth and have witnessed her incredible care for her patients. With each and every call she answers, she provides clear direction regarding patient care needs and requests. Patients have commented that they are so appreciative of Elizabeth’s help. In addition to providing exceptional customer service to the patients, Elizabeth is always helpful in assisting other staff. Elizabeth is a workhorse, completing complex tasks with ease. Her positive, caring attitude is contagious and inspiring,” reads her nomination. “Elizabeth demonstrates an innate ability of pure love and selflessness to care patients and coworkers. Recently we had a patient who needed special treatment and was anxious and more concerned regarding our welfare than theirs. Elizabeth reassured the patient that their presence was not an inconvenience which greatly relieved their anxiety. Elizabeth constantly focuses on the patient’s needs in a calm, confident manner. Her care and concern for others is exemplary and a great role model for staff. She is a great asset to Knoxville Hospital & Clinics and I believe being a coworker with this nurse makes all of the clinic staff better.”

The DAISY Award was founded in 1999 in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at age 33 from complications of ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Purpura), thus giving name to award “Diseases Attacking the Immune System” DAISY.
