Local bike riders will try to tack on as many miles as possible without moving an inch at a special fundraiser this coming weekend.

The first Tour de Toren will feature a group riding bikes with trainers–which keep them stationary, to raise funds for Bethany Christian Services.

Rider Wes Chaplin tells KNIA/KRLS News the same group that participated in the AFRAID ride across the state decided to take a bigger challenge on their home turf.

“It creates a greater visibility for Bethany Christian Services by doing this on the Tulip Toren,” Chaplin says. “We’re not leaving the town of Pella, so we can have more of a local presence.”

Leah Garland with the local Bethany Christian Services office says the funds benefit a variety of their services supporting adoptive families and parental assistance programs.

Bikers will begin pedalling on the Tulip Toren at 5 p.m. Friday, with the group racking up as many miles as they can in a 24 hour span through Saturday evening.

They are accepting donations to benefit programs at Bethany Christian Services and encourage the public to attend and participate.
