Greg and Angie Heartsill, along with the Knoxville Police Department and several other community partners put on an event to encourage children’s bike and helmet safety Friday.

The event took place in the city lot across the street from the police department. Marion County Public Health provided a hot dog lunch and two bikes were given away. Knoxville Police Lieutenant Aaron Fuller called the event a great success. Over 150 helmets were provided at the event. Fuller warns that as school lets out and more bicyclists take to the streets, it’s even more important for drivers to be aware of their surroundings.
