Yesterday officially marked the final day of competition for four Tulip City high school tennis players. At Byrnes Park in Waterloo, the Class 1A state individual tennis tournaments took place for first and second round action. Two Pella High individuals were in the singles bracket, and only Bronwyn Metcalf advanced out of the first round to the quarterfinals. Metcalf defeated Danielle Martin of Le Mars, 6 – 4, 5 – 7, and 6 – 0. She was unfortunately defeated in the second round by top-seeded Anatta Charoenkul of Fairfield in straight sets. Lily Roozeboom dropped in two sets in her first round contest against a Decorah opponent. In doubles action, Pella Christian was represented by Rachel Tvedt and Brooke Jorgensen, and they played a gritty match versus a Creston duo. After losing set one by a count of 6 – 3, the Eagles responded with a 6 – 4 set number two win to force the third set. The Eagles came up short in the rubber match, 6 – 3. The Eagles graduate five seniors from their team, and the Lady Dutch say goodbye to six.
