The Knoxville Softball Team continued their slow start to the season getting swept in a varsity doubleheader to the Chiefs of Keokuk last night at home 7-2 and 7-6 with the latter heard live on AM1320 and FM95.3 KNIA.
In the postgame interview coach Steph Christner told KNIA/KRLS Sports that the team came out flat in the first game and despite some agressiveness at the plate near the end its one that the players should put out of their mind. In the nightcap, Knoxville would go down early 2-0 but fight back to tie the score at 2 with RBI singles off the bats of Lucy Olson and Hannah Haushchildt. A four run fourth inning capped off by an RBI double by Haushchildt would put the Panthers up four, but a three run home run and a two run double by the Chiefs would put Keokuk up for good. The Panthers attempted a rally in the seventh with an Anna Sanderson double and pinch runner Katie Keitges getting thrown out at home on a suicide squeeze but could push no runs across. Christner told KNIA/KRLS Sports that she told the pitchers to keep their heads up, as some defensive miscues allowed Keokuk to score some runs. The Panthers will travel to Albia tonight.
