The Knoxville City Council met in regular session Monday night.

The Council approved a lease agreement with the Senior Center after some discussion of the Center’s contributions to maintenance of the facility. Lisco was chosen as the provider of fiber internet to the City of Knoxville. Councilman Kingery voted against the measure citing concerns about endangering the jobs of local Mediacom employees. Mediacom has an office in Knoxville and entered a proposal for providership along with Lisco. City Manager Aaron Adams advised the Lisco option would be cheaper in the long term. Adams repeated his presentation on the proposed stormwater utility and a few citizens shared issues they have had with excessive flows. The Council will continue to consider the utility at future meetings. The Council also recognized National Garden Club Week and approved a street closure for the Knoxville Public Library’s Outdoor Day, among other items.
