U.S. Congressman Dave Loebsack says the economy should be the primary focus when campaigns ramp up for elections in the coming months.

Loebsack is concerned with stimulating additional job and wage growth at the state and national level.

“We’ve got to stop sending jobs overseas,” he says. “That’s the big part of what we have to do to continue the weak economic recovery we’ve seen.”

He feels the presidential election campaigns have failed to focus on issues that matter to most voters.

“This presidential race is really just something that’s very distressing for everybody,” Loebsack says. “I think–just seeing what’s going on there, it seems to be a race to the bottom and it’s about celebrity and it’s about things that the American people are not particularly anxious to see it be about.”

Loebsack is running for reelection this November as the incumbent candidate in the 2nd U.S. Congressional District against Republican Dr. Christopher Peters.
