MILLER,MATTHEW REED 001

A Des Moines man was charged with a felony Wednesday while being booked into jail in Knoxville.

According to court records, Matthew Reed Miller was told by deputies, while being arrested for an unrelated warrant, he would be charged with a felony if he was found in possession of any contraband at the jail and admitting to possession outside of the institution would carry a lesser charge. Miller said he understood. According to Marion County Sheriff Jason Sandholdt the deputy who transported Miller to jail later found a small bag containing white powder under the seat of his patrol car. The deputy had reason to believe Miller attempted to hide the bag under the seat on the way to jail. The powder was tested and determined to be methamphetamine. Miller is charged with possession of controlled substance-second offense and possession of a contraband in a correctional institution, a class D felony.
