The Pella Public Works Department is set to begin their annual round of sewer cleaning and inspection next month.

Staff says the process is a proactive approach that will identify and prioritize future repairs and maintenance in the sanitary sewer system. Any residents affected by the process should receive notification to any work, which will take place over a large portion of the south and west parts of Pella in mid to late July.

Public Works staff recommends that anyone noticing sewer odors in their homes following completion of the inspection and cleaning should make sure drain traps are full by pouring water in them. They should also keep toilet lids closed when not in use as the cleaning process can sometimes pressurize private services.
